Biography

Jaia stands for the trance/progressive house/chill-out project of the French producer Yannis Kamarinos. After learning musical theory at university, he used to play piano and keyboards in a couple of French rock bands and produced his first trance tracks in 1992. In 1995 he formed Jaia with Jean-Michel Blanchet and they released their first tracks on Fairway Records. First Jaia album Blue Energy (Cross/East West/Nova Tekk) was released in 1998 and re-released in 2000 as a double CD with a 6 tracks bonus CD under the name of Blue Energy/Blue Synergy (Dakini/Yellow Feather). Jaia also released several 12″ vinyls as well as numerous tracks on various compilations of labels such as Island, Iboga, Wagram, Milan, Flying Rhino, Tribal Vision and many others.

since 2000 Yannis has been working alone under Jaia name and released the full-length album Fiction (Digital Structures) in 2005 which fuses psychedelic sounds with fat atmospheric progressive trance and house. Nowadays Jaia’s music is a unique crossover between progressive trance, progressive house and electro. Jaia is still producing chill out and ambient tracks, too. Yannis has collaborated with other producers such as Dado (aka Deedrah, Synthetic…), Wizzy Noise, Blue Planet Corporation or Silicon Sound. He has remixed famous artists like the French singer Mylene Farmer, including her well-known singles C’est Une Belle Journée and Pardonne-Moi

(Polydor/Universal), the Moroccan singer Tyoussi (Fairway/Sony Music), Vibrasphere (Tribal Vision) or the French pop band Jpex (Wagram). Jaia has also been remixed by Total Eclipse, Minilogue, Nipp or Jimmy Van M among many others…

Yannis is involved in various side projects too, like the trance Even 11 with Silicon Sound, the downtempo one Altitudes with Blue Planet Corporation and Silicon Sound, or the popular electro-house one Kama & Mac Gregor. He is also part of the electro and house oriented label Pumpz Recordings. Additionally Yannis is also working with Extreme Music and his tracks are often used for TV advertisements and documentaries, video games and movies. He is also currently producing music for short-movies soundtracks.
